Why is it important to learn to develop our leadership skills? We believe in that, in the UAB Masters programs in International Trade, Distribution and Marketing: leadership drive businesses performance, through the development and motivation of employees in an organization.
Developing our leadership skills involves developing our self-confidence, our self-knowledge and the ability to relate to others from the basis of mutual interest and shared responsibility in order to build trust. Businesses are made primarily with people and because of trust. For this, besides the technical knowledge of the business itself, we need to be consistent, able to communicate, negotiate and generate empathy in others. Those are leadership skills. Only then we will make people want to work with us and give the best of themselves when trying to attain a shared goal.
Understanding this helps us to design people policies to enable people to develop themselves in our companies. It is well studied that satisfied employees become loyal employees: A 5% increase in employee retention can yield between 25% & almost 100% increase in profits. That is valid for any type of business we are conducting, either a start-up business, a family business, a multinational corporation, or even an NGO.
